Max Hatt/Edda Glass Duo

img-7580-by-anthony-proveaux.jpg
mheg-sundance2015-ascapmusiccafe-by-erik-philbrook-fullsize.jpeg

Max Hatt / Edda Glass have "an incomparable spook” (Nashville Scene) and a "unique sound" (Larry Groce, NPR Mountain Stage), comprised of Glass's unmistakable voice, Hatt's epic guitar landscapes, and their award-winning Jazz Americana compositions. Praised for her "impeccable vocal command" (PopMatters) and compared to a gamut of singers from Astrud Gilberto to Billie Holliday, Glass's voice is ultimately "one of a kind...you cannot confuse her with another artist" (New York Theatre Guide). Hatt's equally distinctive guitar work combines the harmonic innovations of jazz with the melodic resonance of folk, creating music that's "subtly poignant, elegantly funky, and haunting without trying to be" (Nels Cline, Wilco).  With a new album produced by Wilco's Pat Sansone, they've toured coast-to-coast from NYC’s Lincoln Center to NPR Mountain Stage, Sundance Film Fest, and Wilco's Solid Sound Festival (upcoming), with press from Huffington Post to Paste.

Max Hatt / Edda Glass began in Montana, where Hatt had a jazz trio and Glass had a knack for singing Brazilian Portuguese. Glass sat in on songs like "Girl from Ipanema" and they soon became the state's only Bossa Nova band, honing their original material on the side. On long drives between Bossa Nova gigs, Glass wrote lyrics to Hatt's solo guitar compositions: "Max's compositions are so cinematic," she recalls, "and you look out the window and it's like the camera's panning for you, over these enormous landscapes, and you start expecting something to happen— a story to begin." This highway collaboration took them all the way to New York City at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, where the two unknowns won the 2014 Grand Prize of the International Mountain Stage / NewSong Competition. It was there that their songs of migrating geese, dispossessed tribes, and mysteries in the wheat fields captured the attention of their future producer, Pat Sansone. “I was mesmerized from the first moment I heard them," Sansone recalls. "They have the ability to create a deep sonic landscape with only voice and guitar, with songs that poses a mysterious and soulful magic."

Hatt grew up in the Chicago-land area, studied jazz guitar in the David Baker program at Indiana University, and has taken classes with Pat Metheny, Julian Lage, and Lee Retinour. The daughter of a jazz trombonist and a music aficionado, Glass was likewise steeped in jazz, and learned to sing in Portuguese through obsessive teenage listening to an obscure Nara Leão album (followed by the famous Getz/Gilberto). With other influences ranging from Neil Young to J.D. Salinger, Homer, Jim Jarmusch, and Casablanca, the duo truly creates "a unique sound harmoniously forged from seemingly disparate elements," (Larry Groce of NPR Mountain Stage).

Having played and recorded for a who’s who of local and regional groups and musicians this busy bassist and educator continues to dominate the acoustic jazz bass in the area!

King James Night in The King George Club

44713594_211514833092053_4941329375485231104_n.jpg

As some of you may be aware, our beloved bartender James Gibble has been diagnosed with lung cancer and is without insurance. He has the biggest heart and would do anything for anyone in a drop of a dime, always with a smile. This community comes together for so many great things, and now it's time to help one of our own.

While he is still in preliminary stages of his diagnoses, we know that treatment will be necessary and will certainly be expensive. Your support will help James to have one less thing to worry about in an otherwise stressful and worrisome time.

We are supporting James in every way possible during this hard time, which is why we are hosting King James Night in The King George Club! We invite the community to join us & support James with Open Mic on December 14, while James bartends for the evening & raises money for his treatment. Invite your friends & everyone you know, it’ll be a night full of music, laughter, & great company!

Due to the overwhelming response, we have made King James Night a community event! Local restaurants, bars, breweries, & distilleries are putting donation buckets at their place of business, as well as donating items for our event! There will be a bar with ONLY the donated items from local breweries & distilleries, that will be a DONATION-CASH ONLY bar. The TT Bar, KG, & the restaurant will have a King James drink list where 100% of proceeds go to James, and a portion of proceeds from all other sales will go to James as well. There will be a celebrity bartender at the TT Bar slinging drinks & donating their tips to James.

This event is CASH PREFERRED.

Swing Street

26685261_785892698262835_3831351544244012261_o.jpg

Swing Street is a jazz quartet based in Lancaster PA. The quartet consists of vocalist Olivia Marstellar, Chuck Oettel on guitar, Mike Truitt on keyboards, and bassist Pete Bainbridge. The group features a mix of mainstream jazz standards, some jazz adaptations of popular tunes and a few adventures into smooth jazz. The group performs as a full quartet but also as an instrumental trio or duo or as a duo plus vocal, depending on the needs of the venue.

Vocalist Olivia Marstellar is the newest member of the group. She has over a decade of vocal performance experience. Her smooth, expressive voice is highly complementary to Swing Street's style. She is also an accomplished french horn player, although not in a jazz context. Olvia also sings for Mitch and the Moodswings.

Guitarist Chuck Oettel has studied, performed and taught music for over 40 years. He is well versed in many styles of music, having played in jazz combos and big bands as well as show bands and gospel groups. In addition to his activities with Swing Street Chuck is much sought after as a sideman with numerous jazz groups in the area.

Pianist Mike Truitt has played in various local bands since the 1980s. In addition to playing with Swing Street he currently plays for “The Fabulous Cheeze Brothers and Sisters”. He also teaches music and directs musicals for the stage.

Bassist Pete Bainbridge has played in bands since the 1980s. He started his musical career playing in bluegrass bands, moving on to playing in jazz bands in the 1990s. He is also a member of The Myopics swing trio and the Flipside big band.

February 2016 - Las Vegas - James received The Classic Crooner Award at The Reel Awards, at The Golden Nugget Casino Hotel!! There were 90 nominees in 15 categories. Only 15 award winners!! James Young, former Police Detective, has the unique sounds of both a young Sinatra at times and the more mature Frank, the other. It’s like following Sinatra’s entire career in one show.

Young makes you believe the Chairman of Board is alive and on that stage! He has captured The Chairman of the Board's voice, style, and mannerisms. Either with a Rat Pack Tribute, or stand alone, this Sinatra act is one of the finest anywhere in the world!

He began his Sinatra tribute show in 2004, and has performed at The Walt Disney World Wyndham Resort in 2011 and 2012; The Fremont Street Experience and The Golden Nugget Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, NV in 2012 and 2016. April 19, 2013, James appeared and performed on The Midnight Show with Vic Terno on New York's Time-Warner Television. Also on Madhouse TV with comedian Frank Prince, August 3, 2013, and again on May 3, 2014.

His venues have included the Overland Park Convention Center, Kansas; another in Kansas City, MO; The Docks at Fells Point, Baltimore, MD, cruise ships for American Cruise Lines, and several cities in Pennsylvania and Maryland. In December 2012, James performed at corporate events outside Washington, DC and Abilene, TX. He has been featured in newspaper and television stories across the United States.

In 2011, Young teamed up with Eric Richardson, a Dean Martin tribute artist. The pair performed together in Kansas City, MO; Philadelphia, PA; also Baltimore and Bel Air, MD. The event in Kansas City included James, Eric, and Jim Petty and The Sinatra Nation Orchestra. Cut from the cloth that gave us Steven Wright, Mitch Hedberg and Demetri Martin- Elijah Cross has an act that showcases his askew imagination and way of looking at minutiae. Cross has received praise from established acts like Myq Kaplan and Conan’s head monologue writer Brian Kiley.

Elijah was a finalist in the 2007 Central Florida Comedy Competition and has most recently been seen at Helium Comedy Club in Philadelphia and The Comedy Studio in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He was also a featured performer at Cola Comedy Con in South Carolina, a four-day event headlined by Kyle Kinane.
