Swing Street

26685261_785892698262835_3831351544244012261_o.jpg

Join us for First Friday in October with music from Swing Street. The King George Club is open to the public on First Fridays, so don't worry about that membership...yet.

Swing Street is a jazz quartet based in Lancaster PA. The quartet consists of vocalist Olivia Marstellar, Chuck Oettel on guitar, Mike Truitt on keyboards, and bassist Pete Bainbridge. The group features a mix of mainstream jazz standards, some jazz adaptations of popular tunes and a few adventures into smooth jazz. The group performs as a full quartet but also as an instrumental trio or duo or as a duo plus vocal, depending on the needs of the venue.

Vocalist Olivia Marstellar is the newest member of the group. She has over a decade of vocal performance experience. Her smooth, expressive voice is highly complementary to Swing Street's style. She is also an accomplished french horn player, although not in a jazz context. Olvia also sings for Mitch and the Moodswings.

Guitarist Chuck Oettel has studied, performed and taught music for over 40 years. He is well versed in many styles of music, having played in jazz combos and big bands as well as show bands and gospel groups. In addition to his activities with Swing Street Chuck is much sought after as a sideman with numerous jazz groups in the area.

Pianist Mike Truitt has played in various local bands since the 1980s. In addition to playing with Swing Street he currently plays for “The Fabulous Cheeze Brothers and Sisters”. He also teaches music and directs musicals for the stage.

Bassist Pete Bainbridge has played in bands since the 1980s. He started his musical career playing in bluegrass bands, moving on to playing in jazz bands in the 1990s. He is also a member of The Myopics swing trio and the Flipside big band.

Lisa Evans Jazz

Lisa Evans is a jazz singer from York County, Pa. Originally, born in Baltimore, Lisa grew up on the outskirts of Annapolis, Md., listening to her parent’s diverse musical collections of 50’s oldies, 70’s soft rock and traditional country. Her early days playing music include singing and playing guitar in South Florida at her church and in a local blues band. Her love for singing was inspired by her mother, who was a local singer of standards in the D.C. area in the 1980's. Lisa’s earliest influences were Aretha Franklin and Billie Holiday, for not only their obvious skill, but more than anything, the deep "feeling" they masterfully conveyed. Today, her favorite artists for inspiration are Carmen McCrae, Eva Cassidy, Anita O'Day, Gregory Porter, Kurt Elling, and Dianne Reeves. Lisa performs regularly with her trio at special events, restaurants, wineries, and private parties in the York/Lancaster/Harrisburg/Baltimore area.
