Max Hatt/Edda Glass Duo

Max Hatt / Edda Glass have "an incomparable spook” (Nashville Scene) and a "unique sound" (Larry Groce, NPR Mountain Stage), comprised of Glass's unmistakable voice, Hatt's epic guitar landscapes, and their award-winning Jazz Americana compositions. Praised for her "impeccable vocal command" (PopMatters) and compared to a gamut of singers from Astrud Gilberto to Billie Holliday, Glass's voice is ultimately "one of a kind...you cannot confuse her with another artist" (New York Theatre Guide). Hatt's equally distinctive guitar work combines the harmonic innovations of jazz with the melodic resonance of folk, creating music that's "subtly poignant, elegantly funky, and haunting without trying to be" (Nels Cline, Wilco).  With a new album produced by Wilco's Pat Sansone, they've toured coast-to-coast from NYC’s Lincoln Center to NPR Mountain Stage, Sundance Film Fest, and Wilco's Solid Sound Festival (upcoming), with press from Huffington Post to Paste.

Max Hatt / Edda Glass began in Montana, where Hatt had a jazz trio and Glass had a knack for singing Brazilian Portuguese. Glass sat in on songs like "Girl from Ipanema" and they soon became the state's only Bossa Nova band, honing their original material on the side. On long drives between Bossa Nova gigs, Glass wrote lyrics to Hatt's solo guitar compositions: "Max's compositions are so cinematic," she recalls, "and you look out the window and it's like the camera's panning for you, over these enormous landscapes, and you start expecting something to happen— a story to begin." This highway collaboration took them all the way to New York City at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, where the two unknowns won the 2014 Grand Prize of the International Mountain Stage / NewSong Competition. It was there that their songs of migrating geese, dispossessed tribes, and mysteries in the wheat fields captured the attention of their future producer, Pat Sansone. “I was mesmerized from the first moment I heard them," Sansone recalls. "They have the ability to create a deep sonic landscape with only voice and guitar, with songs that poses a mysterious and soulful magic."

Hatt grew up in the Chicago-land area, studied jazz guitar in the David Baker program at Indiana University, and has taken classes with Pat Metheny, Julian Lage, and Lee Retinour. The daughter of a jazz trombonist and a music aficionado, Glass was likewise steeped in jazz, and learned to sing in Portuguese through obsessive teenage listening to an obscure Nara Leão album (followed by the famous Getz/Gilberto). With other influences ranging from Neil Young to J.D. Salinger, Homer, Jim Jarmusch, and Casablanca, the duo truly creates "a unique sound harmoniously forged from seemingly disparate elements," (Larry Groce of NPR Mountain Stage).

Elijah Cross' Musimagicomic Night

MusiMagiComic w letters.jpg

Join Elijah Cross and special guests every month the rest of 2019 for a mix of music, magic, comedy, and who the heck knows what else. It's never the same show twice- and it's exclusively at The King George Club.
---
Elijah Cross is a musician, comedian, and magician based in York, Pennsylvania. Originally from California, he is an alumnus of the San Diego School of Creative and Performing Arts, where he began playing music and acting in stage productions. While still in high school, he began working as a professional magician, and shortly after graduating, he was booking music and comedy club gigs in New York. His stand-up comedy act has earned him comparisons to Steven Wright, Demetri Martin, and Mitch Hedberg.

After a period of traveling the country and honing an award-winning comedy act that would become praised by Conan head writer Brian Kiley, Elijah settled in York in 2011, portraying Judas in Jesus Christ Superstar at the Strand-Capitol (Appell Center) the same year. In 2013, he joined the Big Dogs of Comedy Tour, which performed at locations owned by Heritage Hills. In 2014, he appeared on FOX 43 performing his music and built a following by playing local venues. The next year, he was the opening act for Rusted Root’s Michael Glabicki and Dirk Miller in Hanover.

In 2016, he released his debut album, Here’s the Skinny, which showcases a gifted writer who grew up studying legends like Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, and Carole King, as well as more recent artists like Aimee Mann and Elliott Smith. It's a set of music that the folk legend Linda Perhacs has called “sterling”. The album blends elements of a variety of genres, from rock, pop, and folk to jazz and gospel, but remains a cohesive set, thanks to Cross’s own style appearing on each track.

In 2017, he combined his music, magic, and comedy in RISE, a solo show at The Pullo Center, which raised $2,500 for NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) York.

In 2018 he was a featured performer at the Cola Comedy Con in Columbia, South Carolina, was invited by NBCUniversal to perform for their annual talent search, and was one of just 32 comics from around the world selected for the 39th Annual Seattle International Comedy Competition - following in the footsteps of 1997 winner Mitch Hedberg.

Max Hatt/Edda Glass Duo

img-7580-by-anthony-proveaux.jpg
mheg-sundance2015-ascapmusiccafe-by-erik-philbrook-fullsize.jpeg

Suzi Brown

sbeqf.jpg

Singer/songwriter Suzi Brown has found herself on a musical journey, from playing coffee shops, wineries and theaters to studio work on her first full length album "Siren Song." She has collaborated with Producer Pier Giacalone (Regina Spektor and Sloan Wainwright); drummer Rodney Holmes (Carlos Santana and Steve Kimock); and keyboardist Arne Wendt (Bon Jovi). Suzi has opened for Sixpence None the Richer and co-billed with the Indigo Girls at the Wild Goose Festival in 2013.

Suzi’s music is a variety of cultural styles encompassing Celtic, Asian, Island, and tribal beats with traditional folk/pop. Weaving together her storytelling abilities and a unique instrumental talent, her rhythm strikes a familiar chord in the listener. From lyrics that will leave you with a reminiscent smile to serious topics about the issues surrounding the current times, Suzi's songs are both easy to sing along to and hard to forget.

King James Night in The King George Club

44713594_211514833092053_4941329375485231104_n.jpg

As some of you may be aware, our beloved bartender James Gibble has been diagnosed with lung cancer and is without insurance. He has the biggest heart and would do anything for anyone in a drop of a dime, always with a smile. This community comes together for so many great things, and now it's time to help one of our own.

While he is still in preliminary stages of his diagnoses, we know that treatment will be necessary and will certainly be expensive. Your support will help James to have one less thing to worry about in an otherwise stressful and worrisome time.

We are supporting James in every way possible during this hard time, which is why we are hosting King James Night in The King George Club! We invite the community to join us & support James with Open Mic on December 14, while James bartends for the evening & raises money for his treatment. Invite your friends & everyone you know, it’ll be a night full of music, laughter, & great company!

Due to the overwhelming response, we have made King James Night a community event! Local restaurants, bars, breweries, & distilleries are putting donation buckets at their place of business, as well as donating items for our event! There will be a bar with ONLY the donated items from local breweries & distilleries, that will be a DONATION-CASH ONLY bar. The TT Bar, KG, & the restaurant will have a King James drink list where 100% of proceeds go to James, and a portion of proceeds from all other sales will go to James as well. There will be a celebrity bartender at the TT Bar slinging drinks & donating their tips to James.

This event is CASH PREFERRED.

Click here to read YDR’s article on James’ fight, or click here to donate to his GoFundMe Campaign here.
